Our Review

Bong Joon-ho's class-warfare masterpiece shocked the world by becoming the first non-English language film to win Best Picture - and deservedly so. Parasite is a genre-defying thriller that shifts from dark comedy to horror with surgical precision.

Layered Storytelling

The film operates as pure entertainment - an ingenious con artist story where every member of a poor family finagles their way into employment with a wealthy household. But Bong uses this premise to explore the architecture of class: the wealthy family lives up the hill, the poor family lives below, and something unspeakable lives even lower.

The infamous "scholar's rock" scene, the basement reveal, and the garden party finale are masterclasses in suspense and payoff. Every element connects.

Final Thoughts

Parasite is both a gripping entertainment and a furious indictment of inequality. The best film of 2019 by a wide margin.
