Inception
Synopsis
A thief who steals corporate secrets through the use of dream-sharing technology is given the inverse task of planting an idea into the mind of a C.E.O. The job: inception.
Our Review
Christopher Nolan's Inception is a masterpiece of modern filmmaking that redefined what a summer blockbuster could be. Leonardo DiCaprio delivers one of his career-defining performances as Dom Cobb, a thief who specializes in stealing secrets from people's dreams.
What Works
The film's ambitious premise - a heist inside the layered architecture of the subconscious - is executed with breathtaking precision. Nolan builds a world governed by its own internal rules, then uses those rules to craft some of the most memorable set pieces ever filmed: the Parisian streets folding in on themselves, the hotel corridor fight in zero gravity, the climactic snow fortress assault.
Hans Zimmer's iconic score (that BRAAAM!) and Wally Pfister's cinematography elevate every frame. The supporting cast - Marion Cotillard, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Tom Hardy, and Ellen Page - all bring depth to their roles.
The Verdict
Inception rewards repeat viewing. Every detail is placed with purpose. Whether the ending spins or falls, it's the journey that matters. An essential film of the 21st century.
