Hereditary
Synopsis
A grieving family is haunted by tragic and disturbing occurrences following the death of their secretive grandmother.
Our Review
Ari Aster's directorial debut is one of the most disturbing horror films of the 21st century. Toni Collette delivers a career-best performance as Annie, a mother whose family is unraveling under the weight of generational trauma.
Atmospheric Dread
What makes Hereditary terrifying isn't jump scares - it's the creeping sense that something is deeply, fundamentally wrong. The miniature dollhouse metaphor that bookends the film, Charlie's unsettling tongue clicks, and the infamous car scene all contribute to an atmosphere of inescapable doom.
The film takes its time establishing the family's grief before pivoting into supernatural territory. By the time you realize what's actually happening, it's too late to look away.
Verdict
Not for the faint of heart. But for horror fans, this is an instant classic - a deeply unsettling meditation on inherited evil and familial collapse.
